Itinerary
Machu Picchu 2 day tour itinerary

Day 1Cusco - Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes

We will be picking you up from your hotel in Cusco three hours before your train’s departure time from Ollantaytambo train station. We will then drive you through Sacred Valley of the Incas to Ollantaytambo. It is about two hours drive away from Cusco.

Once in Ollantaytambo, our tour manager would assist you in boarding the train to Aguas Calientes. The train ride from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes would reward you breathtaking sights of the snow capped peaks, glaciers, Incan farming terraces and lush green vegetation.

On the way, you would also get a glimpse of many Incan ruins including Km 84 which is the trail head of the renowned Inca Trail.

As the train would reach Aguas Calientes train station, our representative would meet you and will escort you to your hotel.

You will have the evening to walk around Aguas Calientes, a small town that serves as a gateway to Machu Picchu. You can stroll through the market or visit the hot springs after which the town is named.

Day 2Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco

You will need to wake up early. The hotel staff will be handing you a snack box. Then you will be boarding the tourist bus that would drive you up to the citadel. The journey from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu takes about 25 minutes. The first bus leaves Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu at 05:30 in the morning.

Once at the main entrance, our local guide would meet you and assist you with passing the security check point. You will then have a complete guided tour of Machu Picchu for two hours. After the half day tour, you will have some free time to explore the citadel and immerse yourself in the lost city of Incas.

Alternatively, you can climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain if you have booked your entrance which requires a prior intimation and costs USD 20 each. You can also hike up to the Sun Gate which is a one hour climb and is free of cost. It is from Sun Gate you could get a post card image.

After touring the citadel, at a designated time you will be boarding the bus back to Aguas Calientes town from where you would be boarding the train back to Ollantaytambo.

We normally book in a train departing late in the evening. Our representative will meet you at the train station and transfer you back to Cusco city.
