Itinerary

Day 1Cusco Airport Transfer - Cusco City Tour

We will be meeting you at the airport or bus terminal in Cusco and transfer you to your hotel. We highly recommend that you reach Cusco before noon so we can start the Cusco City Tour by 0100 PM.

Qorikancha:

We will be picking you up from your hotel in Cusco at 0100 PM. Our Cusco City Tour begins with a guided visit to Qorikancha, the emblematic temple of the Incas which was once the most sacred place. This is a perfect place to witness the blend of Inca and colonial architecture.

During the Inca rule, the courtyard next to the temple was filled with statues made entirely of Gold. The Spanish conquistadors marveled at this. They arrested the then Inca Emperor, Atahualpa and demanded Gold as ransom for his release.

Most of the gold from Qorikancha was given as a ransom for his release. The Spanish conquistadors, true to the colonial form, killed him on receiving the ransom.

On Spanish conquest, the temple was demolished and the Church of Santo Domingo was built on its remains which stands here today.

Sacsayhuaman:

After a guided tour of Qorikancha, we will be visiting Sacsayhuaman. In Quechua, the name signifies a place where the hawk is situated. This fortress is perched on a hilltop overlooking the city of Cusco.

Sacsayhuaman houses an Inca fortress. Each stone here weighs over 100 tons. The Incas put them together here without using mortar.

They simply cut the edges precisely so it could join accurately. It is so precise that you cannot slide a paper through the joints.

It is still however a mystery on how the Incas transported these massive rocks here.

Q’enqo:

Once you have got a fill of the history here, we will be driving you to Q’enqo. This is another remarkable Inca site off the city of Cusco. Qenqo is a secluded ceremonial site amidst the woods.

This is where the Incas carried out their rituals of human sacrifice and mummification of corpses. Our guide will be giving you a detailed tour of the complex.

Tambomachay:

Our next stop will be in Tambomachay. This is a peculiar place, the Incas built several aqueducts that still carry water today. Tambomachay was used as a spa by the political elites.

Puca Pucara:

After touring here we will be stopping at Puca Pucara, the massive rock which the Incan soldiers used to safeguard Cusco from any intruders. Puca Pucara means “Red Rock”. It is named after the color it bears at sunset.

Once you have got an immersive insight into the history and traditions. We will be driving you back to Cusco city.

Day 2Sacred Valley of the Incas

We will be picking you up from your hotel in Cusco around 0700 AM to start the Sacred Valley Experience. Our first stop will be at Chinchero about a 45 minutes drive away from Cusco.

Here, our local expert would guide you on visiting the agricultural terrace which has been quite prominent since Incan civilisation. There is also a handicraft local market where the local vendors sell their handmade crafts.

Chinchero – Maras – Moray

After getting a complete insight of Chinchero, we will visit Maras. Maras is known for its Salt Mines; those are picturesque and the salt produced here has a distinct taste. Here we will have a guided tour where our local expert would talk with you on methods of Salt Farming which has been existent since pre Incan times.

After visiting Maras, we will have a short drive through the scenic Andean route to Moray. At Moray, you will be familiarized with the different methods of farming that were invented by Incas and are practiced even today.

Moray – Ollantaytambo – Urubamba

We will then drive to Ollantaytambo town. Along the way, we will be stopping in Urubamba. Often referred to as the heart of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, Urubamba is home to many farmlands.

We will be stopping at a local restaurant for a farm fresh buffet lunch. After lunch, we will be driving to Ollantaytambo, the former administrative capital of the Incas.

Ollantaytambo is a perfect example of Incan architecture. Here our local expert would walk with you to the renowned ruins that once served as a fortress. You would get a detailed overview on different areas of the archaeological complex with a bit of history for a detailed understanding.

After touring the archaeological complex of Ollantaytambo, we will be boarding the train to Aguas Calientes town at 0745 PM.

Aguas Calientes or Machu Picchu Pueblo as it is locally known, serves as a gateway to Machu Picchu. The two hour train ride will take you from the Andes down to the tropical region.

Our representative will be meeting you at the train station on arrival and will be accommodating you in an ensuite hotel room for the night.

Day 3Machu Picchu Day Trip

Your epic day trip to Machu Picchu will begin early in the morning. We will embark on a 25 minutes drive up the hill to the entrance of the citadel. As you enter Machu Picchu, you will witness the golden rays of the morning sun beaming on the Inca walls as the blanket of cloud would unveil the citadel to you.

We will be giving you an immersive two hour tour of the complex where you will be visiting the strategic points of the citadel. We will begin with a tour of the main square and visit the ceremonial center, royal quarters, house of guards, sundial clock and more.

During the tour you will understand how the Inca Empire dominated a vast portion of South America which fell as the Spanish conquered the land.

Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain:

After the tour, you will have some free time to explore the citadel on your own. If you have booked to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain, our tour guide will be directing you to the respective trail head.

Sungate or Intipunku

Alternatively, you can also hike to the Sungate. It requires no permit and is free of cost. Sungate or Intipunku is the point of entrance to Machu Picchu to those hiking the Inca Trail. You will be getting a panoramic view of Machu Picchu from here.

Once you have enjoyed the citadel of the Incas, we will be exiting Machu Picchu and taking a bus down to Aguas Calientes. Here you will have some free time to stop for lunch at one of the local restaurants. You can also visit the hot springs after which the place gets its name – Aguas Calientes.

We will be taking the afternoon train back to Ollantaytambo. Our representative will meet you on arrival and will be transferring you back to your hotel in Cusco.

Day 4Rainbow Mountain

Your epic journey to the iconic seven colored mountain would begin in the morning with a transfer from your hotel in Cusco at 0400 AM. We will embark on a three hour drive through the South Sacred Valley of Cusco to Quesinouno community. Here we will be stopping for breakfast.

After relishing a traditional Andean breakfast, we will brief you on hiking the Andes and give an insight into the local traditions and customs. We will begin our uphill hike gradually through some Andean farms and communities.

If you are tired and not willing to hike, you can rent a horse from the community at an extra cost.

Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain Hike:

You will be getting a staggering view of the sacred Andean peak, Ausangate which dominates the southern skyline of Cusco on a clear day. You will also be getting a closer sight of the Andean camelids – Llamas and Alpacas grazing in their natural habitat.

Once we reach the summit, you will have some free time to immerse in the soaking view of the seven hued mountain. Our guide will be talking about the Andean mythology and how locals worship nature entities including the peak.

Once you have had your fill of the views and Andean mythology, we will be descending back to the starting point of the trek. We will be meeting our driver here for our journey back to Cusco city.

On our way, we will be stopping at a restaurant for lunch. After relishing a traditional meal, we will be driving you back to your hotel in Cusco. We will be reaching by 0600 PM.
