Day Trip to Waqrapukara from Cusco is one of the newest activities. This archeological site is located to the south of Cusco, en route to Puno. The two horn shaped peaks dominate the complex. It sits right in between them. Hence the name Waqrapukara which in Quechua means, horn shaped fortress.
This hilltop fortress nestles at 4150 metres above the sea level amidst the rocky outcrop. It has around eight man made farming terraces with retaining walls. On a recent discovery, the archeologists found a triple jammed door. It is one of a kind of door that the Incas used only in sites with an optimum religious or political value.
On this day hike to Waqrapukara from Cusco, we will also be visiting the the picturesque Pomacachi lake before beginning the hike. The trek up the hill offers an enchanting view of the valley below. We will also be stopping to see a cave painting amidst the trek.

This was an out-worldly experience. Me and my partner had an amazing time. There were seldom any other tourists so we pretty much had the whole complex to ourselves. Thanks to Jose Luis for an exceptional guide service.
